Interesting and quirky ties not only complete the well dressed male’s wardrobe, but also act as good conversation openers and can also be used to good effect in negotiation forums and situations.
This tie, made by the well known New York creative tie designers, Alynn Neckwear, belongs to a friend of mine who collects unusual and quirky ties with different themes whereas I stick to my daily elephant theme (and the Carlton footy tie when watching the Blues and the Elders tie at the annual XLANT function at Caterina’s).
This tie consists of numerous red with gold topped shotgun cartridges randomly placed, where from a 5 to 6 feet distance all you can see is red images on a dark blue background. According to my friend is the secret for wearing interesting ties. They must have main theme images no more than around ½ to ¾ inches where the actual images are only revealed when the observer is at least 2 feet away. Hence, the drawing and curiosity factor draws people closer to you to satisfy their own natural instincts. It invariably works as a very good conversation starter at social gatherings. business and client functions; give it a try.
Likewise if you are in a social or business function it is sometimes a good tactic to get conservation going is to compliment a gentleman if he is wearing an interesting tie with the usual questions, where and when did you buy it and is there any theme or passion or personal hobby reflected in his tie. Once he finishes answering my questions, he then reverses the process asking why I collect and wear elephant ties .And so the conservation develops.
I have often used this tactic when greeting people prior to a difficult meeting or negotiation, where recognising and complementing any of the male opposition wearing an interesting tie often gets the meeting of to a more informal and friendly start.
A message for all those young executives walking up and down Collins Street in your expensive fashion suits without a tie – if your wore a tie you might close more deals and make more money to buy interesting ties!
