John Elliott Trumpets In New Website Sponsor – Southside Jazz

by John Elliott on March 15th, 2011

I am pleased to announce that Clint Smith’s traditional style jazz band, Southside Jazz has become a new sponsor to The John Elliott Report and will be a valuable addition to our plan to support Victorian jazz and jazz musicians. Clint formed his band 10 years ago and they play regularly as a 3 to 6 piece band at a wide range of social, private functions and at bigger venues the bands size varies depending on the function type.

For example, the trio/quartet line-up is used more for corporate and shopping centre assignments whereas for bigger venues like hotels, RSL’s and Victorian Jazz Club dinners/functions, the larger band is used.

Clint has been playing the banjo since a young boy and his current banjo mandolin is a 90 year old hand made wooden American mandolin which he has played around the world.

Last week we filmed the Southside Jazz trio In Bank Place, Melbourne and they certainly know how to play trad jazz (and the Carlton theme song) as you will see by watching the video below. In addition to Clint on banjo, is Peter Uppman on trumpet (and vocal) and Ian smith on sousaphone (tuba)

If you want a good jazz band for your next function I can highly recommend Clint’s band. He can be contacted on 9598 1140 or southsidejazz@bigpond.com

Yes, they are a good jazz band. Australia is the home of legend Graeme Bell.

    Thanks for your comment.
