John Elliott’s Monday Aussie Congratulations

by John Elliott on October 10th, 2011

A wide cross section of Aussie events and achievements warranted inclusion in my congratulations list.

Sport – Congratulations to The Wallabies defence in holding out against the Springboks (11-9) to earn a World Rugby Union semi-final match against the NZ All Blacks next Sunday at Eden Park in Auckland.

- Congratulations to Black Caviar and its connections on winning 14 races straight at Caulfield on Saturday to equal Phar Lap’s record.

Congratulations to Descarado, and its part owner and friend of mine, Ross Herron for winning the Caulfield Guineas at 14/1 where this horse is now shaping up as favourite for the Cox Plate ,much to trainers Gai Waterhouse’s delight as she has never had a Cox Plate winner.

Congratulations to Holden’s Garth Tander for winning the Bathurst 1000 by a small margin from another Commodore driver Craig Lowndes.

Community – Congratulations to well known Age court and criminal journalist John Silvester for his weekends article in advocating Victorian police revert to Sir Robert Peel’s 19th Century traditional law enforcement model  or using Silvester’s words,”Group hugs are out, locking up thugs is in.” or have police forget about the spin – just put them in the bin.

Etiquette – Congratulations to Bernard Salt in his weekends Australian regular demographic article on how to deal with a common modern language problem to describe your children’s relationship with the opposite sex or the same sex. He came up with a good solution, instead of using boyfriend or girlfriend or partner but rather “Cohabitating Lovers Uncommitted to Marriage or Partnership” or Clump! How to use it he suggested when introducing your daughters live in partner, you can say ‘I would like to meet my daughter and her clump.”

Have a good week.

Regards

John D Elliott
