John Elliott’s Carlton – Donati’s Fine Meats And King & Godfree

by John Elliott on October 26th, 2011

Two well known and popular Carlton food retail establishments, Donati’s “The Opera Butcher’ and King & Godfree, the liquor, cheese and delicatessen retailer were recently filmed by the John Elliott film crew as part of a special promotion on Lygon Street, more commonly known as “Little Italy”.

Leo Donati started Donati’s Fine Meats in 1972 and is the only butcher shop in Australia known to play Italian opera music to offer customers  a real Italian experience while selecting their meat products. It certainly works as Leo’s shop is very popular. The King & Godfree store has been a Lygon Street landmark since 1886 and is currently owned by the Valmorbida family.

When you come to Carlton next a visit to these two shops is a must. Also, special thanks to Donati’s and King & Godfree for their donation of ham and pork products for the recent  Caterina’s La Porchetta function.
