John Elliott Supports Ross Fitzgerald’s Water Transfer Article
I read with interest over Easter the following article by Ross Fitzgerald in the Weekend Australian where he reviews the previous efforts done by visionary engineers in proposing the transfer of surplus water from Northern Australia to our key agricultural areas which need more water. His article covers the key issues as well as individual State issues . I urge all those viewers who share my views on these water transfer options, to read Ross’s article.
PM Gillard Receives National Water Grid Plan
Last weekend I received a copy of a letter from a concerned Queenslander Selwyn Johnston which was sent to Prime Minister Gillard, all Federal politicians and all Queensland state politicians urging them to adopt a national approach to water and flood management. Since this letter was issued the Queensland flood problem has escalated and the extent of damage is hard to comprehend.
This open letter supports my earlier proposal for all levels of politics to adopt a national long term approach to implementing sustainable water and flood management initiatives I would be interested in your feedback.

A Queenslander’s View On How & When to Build Dams
It was ironic that I received an email this week from a Queensland viewer regarding Barnaby Joyce’s simplistic but realistic view on when to build dams to protect Australia’s valuable water resources. His pre-Xmas media release on this topic can be viewed by clicking here.
Given the recent record floods in North East Australia and the public outburst on the proposed Murray Darling water cutbacks, these events reinforce the need for Federal and State politicians to seriously consider piping water from Northern Australia to the major southern food bowl regions.
John Elliott Joins Murray Darling Water Debate
I have never seen farmers and irrigators so angry and threatened following the release of the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s (MDBA) proposed drastic reduction in water allocations. Its no wonder the Labor Party and the MDBA wanted the draft report deferred until after the Federal election.
Criticising The Murray Darling Basin Authority Delays
“I was astounded to learn of the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s (MDBA) recent decision to delay the release of its water reallocation guidelines until after the Federal election on 21st August. The MDBA claim their action was consistent with election caretaker protocols. Many others think differently.
This preliminary MDBA report was scheduled to be released by early August 2010 to allow for irrigators, farmers and community consultation before issuing their final report in mid 2011.
