Here are last week’s achievements that qualified for inclusion in my weekly Aussie congratulations list.
Sport – Congratulations to Gai Waterhouse for equalling her late Father’s (Tommy Smith) record of training seven Doncaster Mile winners thanks to More Joyous (owned by John Singleton) winning this prestigious race last Saturday.

W Class Trams – Congratulations to Keith O’Donnell, the Brunswick (a northern suburb of Carlton) artist and designer, on launching last week his unique range of model WC Class trams at a special exhibition at 333 Collins Street (previously the Commercial Bank of Australia head office).
Monash MonEY Group High Flying Member Bruce Brockhoff’s Career
Bruce Brockhoff has been an active foundation member of the Monash University Early Year (MonEY) and since graduating from Monash in 1965 (BEC), the “Belt and Braces” man from Dromana has had an eventful life in business as well as his successful recreational (gliding) and environmental pursuits.

Sport – Congratulations to Betty Cuthbert Australian sprint champion and three time Gold Medal winner at Melbourne’s 1956 Olympic Games for being selected as one of the 12 inaugural members of the IAAF Hall Of Fame.

With all the recent Canberra carry on and the Aussie’s cricket success over summer, there has been an absence of worthy news for my weekly column. Fortunately last week there was an interesting range of items that captured my attention.
John Elliott Supports “A Future With Elephants” (AFWE) Asian Conservation Initiatives
Given my passion for elephants, I had no hesitation when recently approached by Frank Connelly one of the Melbourne based AFWE Directors in agreeing to post an article on my website to promote their human-elephant conflict initiatives in Asia where they use “lateral” management problem solving techniques to preserve elephant populations in specific problem locations.
Monash MonEY Members Notting Hill Reunion 24 February 2012
This years Monash MonEY members reunion luncheon function will be held at The Notting Hill Hotel on Friday 24th February 2012. The Nott’s Bistro has been booked from 12 noon until 5pm and already there has been a good level of acceptances according to MonEY Members Group Convenor Michael Headberry.
BROO’s Australia Day Celebration At Carlton’s University Café
To celebrate Australia Day, Broo “Flew The Aussie Flag” last Thursday at the popular Lygon Street restaurant, University Café, Breaking tradition, the café’s Manager and part owner, Brett, decided to offer a wide range of good old Aussie meals instead of their normal pasta and Italian meal specials.
